About The Austin College Commons
The Austin College Commons is a landscaped outdoor gathering and event space at the heart of the Austin College campus in Sherman. Casually known as the Commons and located just north of Wright Campus Center, the space centers on an artificial-turf lawn beneath a sprawling pecan tree. A pergola shade structure, bistro lighting, Wi-Fi, electrical outlets and accessible sidewalk connections make it useful for everyday gathering as well as scheduled campus programs. The restored Commons opened in August 2023 and was formally dedicated later that year as part of Austin College's 175th-anniversary celebration. It now hosts activities ranging from student fairs and informal gatherings to picnics, lawn games and special College events.
